| Signing a Lease Tonight! |
[Aug. 20th, 2007|04:39 pm] |
The last apartment I looked at yesterday is the one that I'm gonna end up living in! Great location, parking included (though I still might get rid of the car), quiet street, back of the building... Nearly everything I wanted!
Here's a map!!! Glad not to have to look anymore - I'm excited! |

| Hawaii! |
[Aug. 10th, 2007|10:05 am] |

Landed yesterday in Honolulu and rode back to my friend, Blake's house in the middle of the island. Much of the island is truly beautiful, but I was also surprised by the areas that are kinda flat and dry - I expected 100% lushness. We drove up to the North Shore and went snorkling - my first time with a snorkel in my mouth ( say NOTHING!!!). Today we are going on a helicopter tour of the waterfalls of the island, and tomorrow we're going on a submarine.
In other news, I will be eating Ramen Noodles for the rest of the year...
OH, and UCSF finally got their SHIT together and sent me my Employment Verification Letter. This was holding me back from signing a lease, and they were just dragging their heals on the whole thing. Not like I need a place to live once I loose the free travel nurse housing or anything... Idiots...
Finally, I'm TRULY bummed that I'll be missing Avenue Q this evening - was quite looking forward to seeing the show with everyone, and may try to get some tix for later. In the meantime, maybe I can drown my sorrows in some swanky Waikiki Beach bar or somethin'.... :) |

Wow. Just how much fun was Lazy Bear Weekend in Guerneville? I don't even know where to begin, but since I just walked in and gotta head to work (ASAP!!!) I'll have to leave any specifics for later. And HELL YES I'm going back next year!!! |

| As I Was Saying... |
[Jul. 25th, 2007|12:53 am] |
Another little break from LJ - seems I should have SOMETHING interesting to say...
After deciding I was just gonna rent an apt. and be done with the search to own something, I actually found something I might like AND might be able to afford. And it's right here in my current building. Will be looking more into a top story studio apt. here in Japantown that is REALLY nice and completely newly renovated. More to follow...
I've been going on increasingly longer walks around the city over the past few weeks, esp. on days that I don't go to the gym. Yesterday I walked from Japantown into the Inner Sunset and back, today from here to Union Square. And the reason I walked to Union Square???
Some asshole left an ink pen in the dryer across the hall from my apt. And of course it was the dryer I put my white's into. I suppose Dalmatian undergarments might someday be stylish, but in the meantime, immediate replacements were needed for work tomorrow.
In better news - four of my friends from NC are coming out to SF over the next couple of weeks for Lazy Bear up in Guerneville. I'm psyched to be seeing them again, and hoping that much merriment will be had! Two of them will be up here in time for Dore Alley, and I'm SOOO planning to pretend to be shocked and appalled by whatever I see there!!!
Finally, I've made plans to fly out to Hawaii to visit my friend of 35 years, Blake. Will be leaving Aug. 9 and spending 5 nights on the Islands. Never been - I'm excited! |

| Kissed at Work! |
[Jun. 21st, 2007|01:34 pm] |
It's my day off, but I had to do some paperwork at UCSF today, so I found myself in the hospital in my street clothes. I run for a closing elevator door, and just make it on with this QUITE hot guy. Of course, I did a double take as I was getting on. And the guy looks at me and says, "Damn you're cute" - then leans in and KISSES ME! I didn't even have time to react - the doors openned, and he got out. I didn't even get to say anything back. He was in street clothes as well, so I don't know if he works there or is a student or whatever - and it really doesn't even really matter.
I COMPLETELY LOVE SAN FRANCISCO!!! |

[Jun. 1st, 2007|01:20 am] |
OK, no more John Denver channelling!
After just yesterday telling me I might NOT be able to move into my own place June 1, I got called to say that I WILL in fact get the keys tomorrow. As in today now, I guess, since it's after midnight. But, it's not the same complex that I was told I'd be put in. (Not gonna be in the same building as littlepinch after all... SIGH...)
I'll be in the 2000 Post Apartments, which are diagonally across Geary from The Fillmore Center - the first building I'd been told I'd live in. The awesome thing is, it's a 2 Bedroom/2 Bathroom on the third floor - all to myself!!! My window looks out over Sutter - alas, MANY blocks up from the part of Sutter that grubbybastard sees from his place. Still, the place is well located as far as public transportation goes, and I will be putting my car on the market in a couple of months. That will up the amount of condo I can afford when September rolls around.
My GOD I can't wait for my life to feel at least somewhat stable for at least a little while! I KNOW I brought all this on myself - this being the 6th time I've moved in the past 24 months - but I'm getting a bit weary of it all. Hopefully, in 3 months, I'll make my 7th and final move since this whole travel nurse thing began, and I can get on with settling down into a FULL TIME job and a FULL TIME life!
I've forgotten what it feels like to be grounded. |

| More Sleeplessness |
[May. 29th, 2007|05:05 am] |
After a great three days in Palm Springs, mrhavisham and I arrived home around 11PM. I was in bed, exhausted, with the lights out by midnight, but was wide awake before 1AM. I have to work this morning at 7AM, so I'm gonna be a mess. I also have to coordinate returning my rental car and picking up my own car from the shop. Today promises to be quite trying. |

My new apartment will be at The Fillmore Center (www.thefillmorecenter.com) near Japantown. Looks like a quick ride up to Market on the 22 Bus will get me to both my gym AND to the N-Judah for work. And I get a parking space!!! However, I do believe I may do away with the vehicle before I buy my own place. We'll see... |

| My Latest Whirlwind Attempt at Stability |
[May. 21st, 2007|08:59 am] |
I will be extending my stay as a travelling nurse at UCSF through the end of August. I will be taking the furnished apt. that they offer as soon as one becomes available - likely ~June 1 - and using it as a homebase while I shop for a condo here in San Francisco. I'm meeting with a loan officer tomorrow to explore the creative lending options that seem to make the real estate market function in the Bay Area, so it'll be interesting to see how far my money and my credit will take me. I'm also talking with dailybinx and huckie's realtor.
During those three months of "travelling," I will be looking for a per diem position in the area where I might pick up a couple of shifts each month to supplement my income. With that underway, I'll then move to full time staff at UCSF in September, complete with better salary, benefits and - I can hardly stand it 'cause I can't remember having it - paid vacation and sick leave!!! Endless excitement!
I'm hoping I can find a two bedroom place in order to lure a roommate in to help with expenses. I don't wanna rent, so best to make the plunge as soon as possible. |

I had a great time getting to meet digitalfriction while he was visiting San Jose from Detroit. He's been on my FList since my first LJ back in 2003, but our paths had never crossed. I picked him up Wednesday evening expecting to just head out for dinner, but then found out he'd never seen the Pacific Ocean, having always lived in the Upper Midwest. We headed to Santa Cruz, then drove up the Pacific Coast Highway to Half Moon Bay for dinner - now THAT'S the way to see the Pacific for the first time!
Ate Dungeness Crab at Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. right on the water, though it was too cold to eat outside. I found it funny that our weather was too cold for a guy from Detroit! But the wind was strong. He'd never eaten whole crab before, so I got to show him how to crack the legs and whatnot. From there, we went ahead and drove north a few more miles to San Francisco so he could see Castro, that gayest of gay Meccas. Did a quick spin through the clubs there, and got a picture of myself dancing on a makeshift grave for Jerry Falwell that had been erected for just such dances. Sorry for those offended, but I LOVE the Castro for being able to set up such shrines so quickly an irreverantly!
Didn't get him back to his hotel in San Jose until almost 2AM, so the next day of conferences, as I understand it, went largely unattended. Heh! |

Oh, great, a new way to get spammed with porn! Take a look at the response to my last post. That's gonna get quite old if LJ doesn't figure out how to stop it. |

At least I remembered to get up and move my car before the street cleaning today. Oh, wait, no I didn't... Seems like I'm gonna need to budget for at least one of these tix every month at this point. And who gives a fuck about clean streets anyway? It's windy, let the shit blow into the yards like in the rest of America. Fucking Californians... |

| Insomnia, Full Swing Ahead |
[May. 14th, 2007|03:16 pm] |
Each of the past three nights, I've ended up getting about 3 hours sleep. Staying awake until well after 8AM when you try to go to sleep around midnight isn't exactly fun, but it is a problem I've dealt with forEVER! Just not in the last 4 or 5 months. Hopefully this won't be a long cycle - one never knows exactly how long and low the lack of sleep will go. Last week, before this kicked in, I'd made an appt with my trainer at 10AM today that I cancelled before finally crashing.
And I've gotta be at work at 7AM tomorrow, so I'm off to wander the streets and exert some energy in the hopes that sheer exhaustion will knock me out tonight so I can function tomorrow.
Meanwhile, on a more upbeat note... nah, nevermind right now... |

| Insomnia Redux |
[May. 14th, 2007|03:17 am] |
Since I haven't been sleeping well lately, I've been spending too many nights up late wasting time. I suppose I should be doing something more constructive and exciting than reading http://www.overheardinnewyork.com/
This one's my favorite:
The Two Stages of Grief Queer Checking Voice Mail: Apparantly my great Aunt just died. Friend: Oh, I'm sorry. Queer: Don't be. She was a horrid, raging bitch. Friend: Oh, well... then... ding dong!

| Late Night Entry |
[May. 13th, 2007|03:38 am] |
Saturday was busy and fun here in chilly SF. Had lunch with southernpm and faerywolf in Castro, then went shopping in Union Square. Dinner with mrhavisham was followed by a semi-date to see "Spiderman 3" with the guy I met at LCD Soundsystem. I liked it! Came home briefly to put on my dancing shoes, then met dailybinx, salacious_pop, corsican70, and huckie for Bootie night at DNA in SOMA. I've never heard such cool mash-up music - I actually danced pretty much for 3 hours straight (well, not so much 'straight', but...). I outlasted the boys and danced til closing with a guy who I THOUGHT was friends with the crew, but it turned out he'd just met most of 'em tonight. Anyway, just made it home and need to wind down so's I can sleep.
This is why I wanted to live in SF! |

| Back in Business! |
[May. 12th, 2007|11:14 am] |
Thanks to et_blackbird, I am now back to my old online ways with my new computer! A brief overview will show that I'm liking my job at UCSF, although with a few reservations to be dealt with later, I am trying to work out which hospital in SF will pay me well and also be an acceptable working environment (UCSF's pay is average, but I like it there), and I'm trying to decide what I'm gonna do about long term housing (the travel company will still offer me a furnished apartment if I keep on as a 'traveller', I could rent a place, OR I could go all-out and buy a condo - I'm talking to dailybinx and huckie's realtor).
Any questions from the crowd at this point? I've been gone a while... Gotta catch up on other people's LJ's. Looking forward to meeting digitalfriction in San Jose soon! |

Knocked my laptop off of the nightstand a couple of nights ago. Along with a snowglobe. Which broke. The "Geniuses" at the Apple Store said it would cost $850 to fix. Instead, I just ordered a refurbished iBook online. SIGH...
Lesson learned - Don't own any fucking SNOW GLOBES! |
